چکیده

Recent advances in high speed photodetector and microwave receiver technology make microwave frequency optical heterodyning an attractive approach for the detection of a number of coherent Raman and Brillouin scattering experiments. We have therefore analyzed the sensitivity of microwave frequency optical heterodyne receivers. Experimental tests on a visible wavelength receiver operating at 13.5 GHz confirm the expectation of shot noise limited sensitivity. The relative merits of microwave frequency optical heterodyne detection and the alternative Fabry– Pérot interferometry approach are discussed. © 1998 American Institute of Physics. @S0034-6748~98!04309-3#

Characterization of Low-Noise Quasi-Optical SIS Mixers for the Submillimeter Band - Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Transactions on

AbstructWe report on the development of low-noise quasioptical SIS mixers for the frequency range 400-850 GHz. The mixers utilize twin-slot antennas, two-junction tuning circuits, and Nb-trilayer junctions. Fourier-transform spectrometry has been used to verify that the frequency response of the devices is well predicted by computer simulations. The 400-850 GHz frequency band can be covered wit...

Characterisation and Modeling of MgB2 HEBs IF impedance

The Terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum which offers many molecular and atomic emission is of particular interest for astrophysics [1]. In order to explore the THz frequency band low noise heterodyne receiver are required. Hot electron bolometers (HEB) are the most sensitive THz mixers for frequencies above 1 THz offering a gain bandwidth (GBW) as wide as 4 GHz [2]. HEBs made from ...

Error Analysis, Design and Modeling of an Improved Heterodyne Nano-Displacement Interferometer

A new heterodyne nano-displacement with error reduction is presented. The main errors affecting the displacement accuracy of the nano-displacement measurement system including intermodulation distortion error, cross-talk error, cross-polarization error and phase detection error are calculated. In the designed system, a He-Ne laser having three-longitudinal-mode is considered as the stabiliz...

Design and Control of Femtosecond Lasers for Optical Clocks and the Synthesis of Low-Noise Optical and Microwave Signals

This paper describes recent advances in the design and control of femtosecond laser combs for their use in optical clocks and in the synthesis of low-noise microwave and optical signals. The authors present a compact and technically simple femtosecond laser that directly emits a broad continuum and shows that it can operate continuously on the timescale of days as the phase-coherent “clockwork”...

Development of Multi-pixel Heterodyne Array Instruments at Submillimeter Wavelengths

Heterodyne receivers at submillimeter wavelengths have played a major role in astrophysics as well as earth and planetary remote sensing. For astrophysics, the submillimeter is the primary frequency range for line and continuum radiation from cool gas and dust. It is useful for studying star formation, galaxies, dust and gas chemistry, and cosmology and CMB physics; heterodyne receivers have be...
